Locks for lockers, which one is the most convenient for your business?

Undoubtedly, the lock is one of the most important parts (if not the most important) of the entire structure of a locker. It is the part that provides the security and custody that we all look for when we leave our objects inside a locker, that is, it is the essence for a locker to fulfill its purpose.

That said, what types of locks are currently on the market and which one is right for your business? Discover all the options below.

Types of locks for lockers

Locks for lockers can be divided into two main groups.

      A) MECHANICAL LOCKS

In these, we find:

1.Key locks

The classic key locks, which can be master keyed (with a special key or "master key" capable of opening all the locks of the lockers, or unmastered. There is also the possibility of a slide lock (preferably on non-metallic lockers), with a removable and mastered cylinder.

2.Knob locks

Knob locks are indicated to be complemented with a padlock, which is the one that gives the final lock to the locker. We can find polyamide knob locks, metallic knob locks for metallic lockers or metallic knob locks for non-metallic lockers. All of them with 180º turn.

3. Coin-operated

These locks are very popular in establishments such as supermarkets, where you insert a €1 coin to lock your locker and you can recover it once you release it. It is suitable for all types of lockers and has a removable and master cylinder. There is also the option of deposit box and the admission of 2 €, 1 € and 50 cts coins.

4. Combination locks

Combination locks allow the locker to be operated with a combination of 4 roulette numbers to indicate the numerical combination chosen. With a master key to retrieve the combination in case of forgetting and opening the locker.

      B) ELECTRONIC LOCKS

In this second type of locks for lockers we find:

1. Electronic combination locks

This type of combination locks do not have any keys added to them, as they only work with numeric or alphanumeric encryption. Generally, there are two types of uses for lockers with this type of lock:

Shared use

In this functionality, locks are designed for lockers that are to be used by multiple users. The user chooses an available locker and operates with a user credential selected by the user. Once the locker is vacated, it becomes available to a different user with a different personal combination.

Assigned use

In the assigned use functionality, the locks are designed for lockers that are for private use. The user is assigned a locker and operates with his assigned user credential.

2. Electronic proximity locks

Proximity locks work with a system of sensors which are activated by bringing a coded card close to the reader of the lock itself. They have emergency opening in case of possible contingencies with the sensors or the battery.
